Cameron’s Resurrection Roggenbier

Roggenbier is a German style of ale using rye malts, alongside wheat and barley malts. Roggenbier is rare as few brewers use rye malts in beer (Roggen translates to rye in German).

Ontario’s Cameron’s Brewing has decided to try their hand at this type of ale with Resurrection. I’ve never tried a Roggenbier before now, so I have nothing to compare it to.

Resurrection pours with a opaque body, much like a wheat beer, but is a dark brown in colour with a thick cream-coloured head. the aroma does have hints of sour rye as well as fruit. The taste has notes of banana, sweet malts and spice. The carbonation was more than I thought it would be.  The finish has a little bit of spice and light hoppiness. I enjoyed the balance in this beer as I was prepared for too much maltiness or sour rye taste for my palate.
