HogsBack Vintage Lager

This is Ontario Craft Beer Week and we’ve reviewed a lot of Ontario craft beers here, but I thought it would be nice to review a beer from far out of the Toronto area, which brings today’s review for Ottawa’s HogsBack Vintage Lager. I like how the spelling of their name is similar to RedBlacks, the new Ottawa CFL team.

The lager doesn’t pour like a normal lager. It has darker, more amber body and a thick, creamy off-white head. The aroma is grassy and hoppy. There’s a bit of a grassy taste with more of a malty flavour than I was expecting. The finish is hoppy with hints of fruit. This beer will never go down as the greatest you’ve ever tasted, but it’s not too bad at all. It holds its own.
