Granville Lions Winter Ale

I attend poetry and literary events quite frequently. I attended one last night at Pauper’s on Bloor Street in the Annex. They were offering cans of Granville Lions Winter Ale as a special.  Outside of English Bay Pale Ale, finding Granville brew in a bar is rare in Toronto.  Finding a seasonal Granville beer anywhere in Toronto is hard.

Lions Winter Ale pours with a reddish brown colour and an off-white head. The aroma is very strong of brown sugar and vanilla. It’s a bit of a turn-off for a beer. The taste has hints of malts and nuts and then a vanilla cream-soda-like flavour. This beer is very sweet. I do not recommend not trying this beer, however, don’t plan on drinking it all night. It’s worth sampling, but for me it’s too sweet for a beer. Also keep in mind, though it’s a very sweet beer, it is stronger at 5.5% ABV.
