Beau’s Festivale

A few weeks a go a friend and neighbour brought back a growler of Festivale from Vanleek, Ontario, home of Beau’s All Natural Brewing Company. Festivale is Beau’s special summer seasonal beer. This same friend brought me some of the Festivale from a trip to eastern Ontario this weekend and I thought it was time to review the beer. It’s a strange one, with some good points and some bad points.

The aroma of this beer is actually the opposite of the flavour. the aroma is sweet and malty, but the flavour is very hoppy. The one thing I do not like about the beer is the finish. The finish is kind of like the Beatles’ Helter Skelter. It doesn’t arrive until long after. When it does, it’s not overly pleasant and too sour.  The body of the beer is a brownish/deep amber colour and a thick head. The beer is 4.7% abv.

Beau’s logo is a tractor. The cap has the words, “This machine kills imports.” Clever.

The end is near, at least for this year, for Festivale. Beau’s is releasing their new Night Mårzen Oktoberfest Lager later this week, the fall seasonal beer. We’re talking about Oktoberfest and fall already? 😦
