Hop City Barking Squirrel

I tried Hop City Brewing Company’s Barking Squirrel the other afternoon. I have a hard time believing this beer can possibly be classified as a lager, but that won’t stop me from defining it as damn delicious. The pour has a thick white foam head and a beautiful burnt orange colour. Both the aroma and palate have a finely balanced approach of roasted hops and caramel malts, with a bit of a sweet, clean finish. A reviewer on Ratebeer suggested Barking Squirrel was just a watered down version of Fuller’s Pride. I find this baffling as I don’t see the similarity and I find this much better than Fuller’s Pride. Barking Squirrel is available in 473 ml cans at your LCBO (availability may vary by store).
