Paddock Wood Czech Mate

Some time ago I blogged about a brewer in Saskatoon called Paddock Wood in a post about Saskatchewan brewers. I was surprised to see some of their products on the shelf at a local Beer Store in Toronto recently. Lets review Paddock Wood’s Czech Mate Czech-style pilsner, which, according to the brewer, is brewed with imported Czech Saaz hops.

Czech Mate pours with a straw body, not too light in colour, and has a thick white head. The aroma is strongly of grass and grain. The flavour starts off with a sweet maltiness and finishes with a not-too-strong grassy, hoppy finish. I quite enjoyed it. The brewer recommends the beer be served at 8-10 degrees Celsius and not be served ice cold. I’m not a fan of warmer beer, but can see what they mean. The maltiness tends to fade at a colder temperature.
